Boise, Idaho

Boise is Idaho's capital city and largest metropolitan area with over 300,000 residents. Located at 2,842 feet in elevation, Boise is within minutes of mountains offering many recreational activities, including fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, skiing, and sightseeing. Residents are able to enjoy these and other activities because of Boise's generally moderate climate, typically low humidity, and sparse snowfall in the winter. The mean temperature is 51 degrees, and average yearly precipitation is only 12 inches. Residents also enjoy low heating and cooling bills because of the area's moderate temperature

In the Boise area, there are more than a hundred technical communicators. Many work for large corporations such as Micron Technology or Hewlett-Packard, but a number are employed by smaller hardware or software companies, such as Extended Systems and SCP Global Technologies. Locally, the expansion in the high technology and service sectors in the Boise area ensures continuing high demand for technical communicators. In addition, many technical communicators work for state and federal agencies. Because there are numerous internship opportunities for technical communication in the Boise area, a high percentage of our graduates take full-time positions with an organization for which they were an intern.
