Restriction on Awarding MATC Credits

The Graduate College will count toward a graduate degree no more than nine credits earned before a student has been officially admitted to a graduate program. Because this policy dates back only to 1997, we are not considering credits earned through the end of the Fall semester of 1997. However, we are counting credits earned during the Spring semester of 1998 and since that time. Therefore, if you have earned a total of nine credits in, say, 1999 and 2000, and you have not been admitted to the MATC program, you may not count toward your degree any additional credits earned before you are officially admitted to the program

If you are sure you want to apply for admission to the MATC program, or even if you think you might want to apply for admission, we ask that you complete the admission process early this semester. Completing the process involves getting to the Director of Technical Communication the 1,000-word statement of intent and three letters of recommendation, as described in the Graduate Catalog and on our Web site (www.boisestate.edu/techcomm).

On March 15, 2001, we began to implement the university policy. If on that date you had not been officially admitted to the MATC program, we will count toward your degree no more than nine credits that you earned between January 1, 1998 and March 15, 2001.

This policy does not mean that you must be admitted to the MATC program in order to take technical communication graduate courses. You are invited to take as many courses as you wish without seeking a degree.

Revised 13 August 2003.
