Head Track and Field Coach, Boise State 1973-96

Recognized as one of the top track and field coaches in the world, Ed Jacoby’s coaching career at Boise State spanned three decades (1973-96). During his 23 years guiding the track and field program at Boise State, Jacoby coached teams won nine Big Sky Conference Championships – 1973 men’s cross country, 1975 men’s cross country, 1983 men’s outdoor, 1989 men’s outdoor, 1994 women’s indoor and outdoor, 1994 men’s indoor, and 1995 women’s indoor and outdoor. Ten times Jacoby received the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year award, and three times he was named the NCAA District Coach of the Year. Bronco athletes earned 23 NCAA All-American awards under Jacoby’s guidance. Two individuals won NCAA National Championships, with his son Jake winning the 1984 outdoor high jump crown, and Eugene Greene capturing the 1991 indoor triple jump title. His most successful team effort came during the 1988 indoor season when Boise Stat placed seventh at the NCAA National Championships. Along with his duties at Boise State, Jacoby spent countless hours as an active member of Track and Field USA and the United States Olympic Committee. In 1992, he was an assistant coach for the U.S. men’s team at the Barcelona Olympic Games. One year after he served as the men’s head coach at the 1993 World Track and Field Championships.
