Gary Craner

Gary Craner has taken care of the medical needs of Bronco student-athletes since he joined the staff at Boise State University in 1972. Craner was instrumental in developing the Boise State Athletic Training Curriculum and has over 200 of his past student working in the field of athletic training throughout the country. Craner, Boise State’s Head Athletic Trainer, was promoted to the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in 1998. He was the first Certified Athletic Trainer in the State of Idaho and at Boise State, and has been a pioneer in working to guarantee that athletes receive proper athletic training care. While at Boise State, Craner has been active in the national Athletic Trainers’ Association, serving on the National Board of Directors and on many committees. He served as the president of the Idaho Athletic Association for 15 years and as president of the Northwest Athletic Trainers Association for 4 years. In 1994, Craner received the highest award bestowed on any athletic trainer when he was inducted into the NATA National Hall of Fame. In 1998, he was inducted into the Northwest Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame. Twice, Craner received the National Tinactin Tough Case Award (1997 and 2000), and in 2001 he was named the IATA Outstanding Athletic Trainer of the Year. A graduate of Twin Falls High School (Idaho), Craner attended Snow College (Utah) where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. Degree in 1996 and from the University of Idaho with a M.Ed. Degree in 1972. He and his wife Dawn have four daughters – Angie, Erin, Shannon, and Cammy.
