EMERGENCY POWER OUTAGE - Monday, February 18th

SUBJECT: Emergency Power Outage This Monday, 4:00am to 8:00am, will Impact Campus Network and Residential Phones

The University has been informed by Idaho Power that an emergency repair to our power supply needs to be made. The result is the east portion of campus (All buildings east of Theater Lane, including the Engineering Complex and Rec Center) will be without power for a period of about 4 hours. This will occur on Monday, February 18th 2008, from about 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM. Also during this time the network/data system for the entire campus will not be functional, and it will take some additional time to restart the servers and establish network/data service. We encourage individuals to turn off their computers and printers to help protect their equipment. Phone systems in residence halls east of Theatre Lane will not be functional during the power outage.

We understand this is an inconvenience to many and will require some quick planning and action to prepare for, but we believe the consequences of not making this repair as soon as possible are more severe. Those with questions or concerns should contact University Security at (208) 426-1453.

Thank you

McNair Scholars Program

The Boise State McNair Scholars Program is accepting applications for admission for our Fall 2008 cohort. We seek high-achieving, academically motivated undergraduates who are interested in pursuing graduate studies and careers in research and higher education. The program serves students from groups underrepresented in graduate education and first generation college students from low-income backgrounds, preparing them for graduate studies through scholarly enrichment, exposure to research, and many other academic experiences and opportunities which demystify the graduate school experience.

Although not a scholarship program, the McNair Program provides a $2,800 stipend for a summer research component and travel funds for research conferences and graduate school visits. In our 4 years of operation at Boise State, McNair Scholars have visited or interviewed at numerous top-ranked graduate programs across the U.S. To date, approximately 80% of our participants have been accepted to Masters and PhD programs, most with substantial funding packages.

Next week, the program will provide two Open House events. These events will provide a substantial overview of the program and an opportunity to meet McNair staff and some current participants. Location and times are as follows:

Thursday, Feb 21st at 12:00pm - Brink Room in the SUB
Friday, Feb 22nd at 12:40pm - Brink Room in the SUB

If you meet qualifications, are expecting to graduate in 2009 or 2010, and are interested in finding out more about graduate school opportunities, please attend one of our events or visit our website: http://education.boisestate.edu/mcnair , or contact David Hall directly at (208)426-2453 or dhall@boisestate.edu .
