STAY SAFE! - Opt In
|
|
As a new year of classes begins at Boise State, please go to
boisestate.edu
and click the Opt-in button at the top of the page to register for an important communication tool to help keep you safe during a campus emergency.
Opt-in is a new telephone and text-based emergency notification system that will allow the university to immediately notify students, faculty, and staff of an emergency taking place on or near campus. In order to get those messages, no matter where you are on campus, you must register your personal contact information.
Currently, emergency messages are only directed to Boise State phones and Boise State e-mails (student e-mail accounts and staff e-mail accounts) via ALERT@BoiseState.
This system will only be used in critical situations with potential to affect your health or safety. Your personal contact information will never be shared or used for any other communication purposes. It only takes a minute, please register right away.

Boise State's Sustainability Initiative
Brings You Trayless Dining!
|
|
University Dining Services is helping Boise State University reduce the carbon footprint we have on the environment -- we have moved to trayless dining!
IN ACCORDANCE TO BOISE STATE'S SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE, WE INTRODUCE TRAYLESS DINING
Boise State is weighing the carbon footprint the university has on the earth this year and we hope to reduce the carbon footprint dramatically – hence the reasons University Dining Services has set forth many important, strategic initiatives to adhere to being environmental stewards in compliance with the university. One of the many things University Dining Services is doing to help reduce our carbon footprint is "Going Trayless!"
The benefits of going trayless are as follows:
Environmental
- Reduces our global impact on the environment
- Increases awareness about water waste
- Reduces the types of harsh chemicals that are needed to clean the trays (e.g. bleach, etc.)
- Conserves energy by eliminating the need to heat water for tray washing
- Conserves water by eliminating the need to wash trays (TRC alone will save half an Olympic size swimming pool in one academic year!)
- Reduces chemical usage (detergent, rinse & drying agents) for washing trays
Social
- Encourages healthier eating habits, elevating health and wellness
- Education & awareness of food waste
- Feels more comfortable (like eating at home or at a sit-down restaurant)
Economic
- Reduces waste removal costs
- Saves on cost of water and energy to heat water
- Eliminates detergent and rinse/drying agent costs for trays

Seeking Women Making History Nominations
|
|
Since 2001, the Boise State Women's Center has honored local "Women Making History": ordinary women leading extraordinary lives.
These women (students, faculty, staff, and community members around Idaho) are interviewed and their stories published in the
Idaho Statesman
in March and then honored at a dinner held in their honor. This publication has become a tradition in our Women's History Month celebration.
We are now calling for nominations for the March 2009 honorees. We are looking for those extraordinary stories of women who challenge sexist stereotypes and norms, work/advocate for equality within institutions (law, health care, education, etc.), role model healthy self-esteem and self-worth, break ground in traditionally male dominated fields (sports, engineering, politics, etc.), or challenge other forms of oppression (racism, ageism, etc.) If you know of a woman you believe should be honored for her contributions to Idaho, please nominate her today.
To nominate someone, you can pick up a nomination form at the Women's Center or go on-line to
womenscenter.boisestate.edu
. All nominations need to be turned in by the submission deadline of September 29, 2008 by 5:00 p.m.
