Games Center Re-Opens

The Student Union Games Center is celebrating its re-opening with a week's worth of events everyone can enjoy.

The Student Union is kicking off the Games Center reopening with special deals:
  • Oct. 20: Free bowling
  • Oct. 21: Free billiards
  • Oct. 22: Free video games
  • Oct. 23: Discounted prices on bowling and billiards, plus an opening reception from noon-3 p.m. in the new lobby.
  • Oct. 24: Discounted prices on bowling and billiards.
In addition, the Games Center will give away two bowling balls with bags and two pool cues with cases, along with a birthday party for eight.

This is the second major milestone in the expansion and remodel of the Student Union Building, the first being the remodel of the Jordan Ballroom.

New Tech @ The Library

In response to student input via focus groups and our LIBQUAL survey, Albertsons Library has made some changes to our student computing environment.

      We now have ten laptops available for three-hour checkout at the first-floor Circulation Desk. Each of these Windows laptops have wireless Internet access and the full Microsoft Office 2007 suite, and they'll print to BroncoPrint printers.
      Plus, we’ve added another 20-station computer lab on the second floor, including two dual-monitor setups loaded with Adobe Creative Suite 3. This package boasts the latest versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver.
      Finally, we’ve installed LCD panels in two study rooms, one on the first floor and another on the second floor, with easy laptop plugins for group projects and presentations.

Do you want to help the people of Sierra Leone, Africa have better schools and clean drinking water? Do you also want to see Coach Peterson wear the ugliest tie you've ever seen for an entire day? Stop by our tie board in the SUB (booth across from the Info Desk) and give a donation in any amount that you wish towards the tie you believe is the ugliest. Coach Peterson will wear for the entire day of October 30th, whichever tie makes the most money.

100% of the proceeds will go directly to helping BSU club "Engineers Without Borders," travel to Africa to create plans to build a school, a water well, and two latrines for a remote village in Sierra Leone, Africa. So, hurry! The tie board will only be up October 20th-24th, and 28th-29th.

Talk: Redefining America: Examining How Latinos are Reshaping the US

Abstract of talk: Latinos are now recognized as the largest and fastest growing ethnic/racial minority segment of the American population. They are now projected to be as much as 25% of the nation by 2042. Who are Latinos? What are their expectations of life in the U.S.? What challenges does their growing presence present to majority America? Based upon the 2006 Latino National Survey, the first-ever, state-stratified, national survey of Latinos in the United States, Dr. Fraga will address these questions with findings regarding aspects of the presence, diversity, political attitudes, and behaviors of Latinos in the United States today.

Women's Center Annual Bra Project


Join us on October 30th for an evening of art, live and silent auction, good food and local music to raise funds for breast cancer awareness, prevention, and research organization.

Artistic representations of bras, created by local artists, will be available for you to enjoy and bid upon. The event starts at 6:00pm at the Art Source Gallery in downtown Boise at 1015 Main Street.

Tickets will be available at the Boise State Women's Center. Tickets prices are $12/General and $8 for any student with student ID. Auction proceeds will benefit Breast Cancer Action.

Students enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) will not be charged this fee. SHIP will be billed. Other insurance plans may cover the vaccine (check with your plan). Departments that purchase vaccines for staff members should forward a roster to Mary Kenworthy, LPN, at MARYKENWORTHY@boisestate.edu, or by fax at 426-3005 by October 20, 2008. No additions will be accepted after 5:00pm on October 20, 2008.
*The flu clinic is offered as a community service from Health, Wellness and Counseling Services to faculty and staff. The Health & Wellness Center is limited to providing insurance and billing services for currently enrolled students . We are therefore no longer able to provide receipts to faculty and staff for the flu clinic. If you wish to have the flu shot covered by your insurance, please see a private physician.
