Returning Women's Mentor Program |
 |
The Returning Women's Mentor Program is now accepting applications for mentors and mentees.
The primary purpose of the Mentor Program for Returning Women Students is to provide support and information to new women students returning to college after an interruption in their formal education. Mentors are valuable campus leaders who can help create a welcoming environment for new students in efforts to ease their transition and increase the likelihood of retaining them. This experience can help mentors (experienced students) build skills relevant to careers in social work, counseling, and education. Training will focus on team building, resource information, peer counseling, basic knowledge of crisis intervention, and problem solving.
Women who would like to mentor a fellow student can earn internship credit.
If you're interested, submit your application online at: womenscenter.boisestate.edu/forms/newStudent.cfm

Emergency Alerts - When and How You Receive One |
 |
The emergency notification system at Boise State University, Alert@BoiseState, is meant to keep students, faculty, and staff informed in the event of an emergency on or near campus. In recent months, you’ve probably seen the messages, encouraging you to Opt-in to Alert@BoiseState with your personal contact information. Doing so ensures you receive a message directly to your mobile phone about where to go or what to do to stay safe in the event of an emergency.
Recently, an incident involving a suspicious package found outside the Towers Residence Hall triggered questions about the criteria used to warrant a text message or voice mail from Alert@BoiseState. In the event of a major, active campus emergency, an urgent situation that has the potential to affect your health and safety, you will receive a message from Alert@BoiseState.
The incident outside Towers was not an immediate threat to the safety or security of our campus community and did not impact classes. The Towers incident was not a bomb threat; it was not a life-threatening incident. Police responded to investigate a suspicious package, and took proactive steps to secure the area, but determined the package was likely nothing more than a discarded Halloween costume.
Alert@BoiseState will not be initiated for non-emergency situations; it will not be used to distribute promotional messages or advertising. It is simply and exclusively for use to keep us safe when an event is underway that could impact our well-being. Are you in yet? Please take a moment today to Opt-in to the system with your personal contact information. Go to www.boisestate.edu and click the Opt-in button at the top of the page.
