The Body Paradox

This solo exhibition by recent M.F.A. graduate student Angela Katona-Batchelor, centers around the tradition of flap anatomy as a vehicle for discussing the relationship between body and soul. The combination of printmaking techniques with sculpture introduces innovative uses of materials and media as well as visually connecting familiar scientific formats to abstract ideas, symbolic associations and historical references.

Exhibition opens March 25th in the Student Union Fine Art Gallery and is open to the public and free of cost.

Reception: April 24, 2009, 4:30 – 6:30pm

Free parking will be available in the Liberal Arts parking lot during the reception.

Working at the Writing Center

Interested in Working in the Boise State Writing Center?

Being a consultant at the Writing Center is one of the most rewarding experiences available to students at Boise State. When a writer and consultant work together, both benefit and learn from the experience. It is an incredibly satisfying feeling to be part of a productive consultation. Yet being a consultant is also demanding. Good consultants are good writers, yes, but also good listeners, and they must be flexible enough to adapt to the needs of different writers and different writing situations. Of course we don't expect everyone to immediately be ready to consult (nor do we ever envision a point where a consultant stops learning), so before anyone comes to work in the Center, he or she enrolls in the English 303 course, Theory and Practice of Tutoring Writing. This course will be offered again in Fall 2009, on Thursday, 6:00-9:00pm.

The course is open to students in any discipline, but enrollment in the course is limited. Students must fill out an application, submit a writing sample, and interview with the director of the Center and with one of the Center's consultants before being enrolled in the course. Is this a lot to ask? Yes. But we pride ourselves on our work, and we think the rewarding experience of working with writers at Boise State is worth the effort. If you are interested in joining us in the Center, please see our website for more details: www.boisestate.edu/wcenter/consultants.html. You can also give us a call (208-426-1298) or stop by (LA 200)—we'll be happy to talk with you about being a writing consultant.

STREET CLOSURE: Belmont Street

Belmont Street Closure

Vermont to Michigan

Monday, March 23, 2009 – Monday, April 6, 2009

Construction on a new electrical power loop along Belmont Street, which will eventually serve the South expansion area for the University, began Monday, February 23, 2009. Construction is anticipated to last six (6) months.

Safety to both the general public and the project’s workers dictates portions of Belmont Street be closed periodically while construction of this power loop occurs. The contractor is providing advance notice of these closures along Belmont Street.

The next closure is scheduled to begin Monday, March 23 and continue through Monday, April 6 from Vermont to Michigan Streets. This closure will include the west side of the Belmont/Vermont intersection. We apologize for the inconvenience and encourage you to make alternate plans to avoid this area of construction during your normal travels to and from campus.
