Ache Brasil - Capoeira Performance and Dance Workshop

As part of the Global Expressions series at the Student Union, Ache Brasil will perform on Friday, April 17th at 8pm in the Student Union Special Events Center.

WORKSHOP:
Ache Brasil will offer a free Dance Workshop on Saturday, April 18th from 11am - 1:15pm in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom. The workshop includes an Introduction to Capoeira and Brazilian Dance.


Ache Brasil fuses music, dance, martial arts and breathtaking acrobatics, creating a dynamic, colorful, high energy extravaganza. This group, made up of six exceptional artists, exhibit a rare combination of authenticity and excellence in their work, which is unparalleled in North America. They are committed to presenting high quality performances which best exemplify Brazil's rich cultural heritage. Through educational outreach programs, they also use their art form to advocate multiculturalism and environmentalism.

Blackboard and Internet Explorer 8

Microsoft's latest Web browser, Internet Explorer 8, was recently released. The Office of Information Technology recommends you NOT install the update at this time. Internet Explorer 8 has already been determined to cause problems when viewing sites in Blackboard (more information is available on the Blackboard Web site blackboard.boisestate.edu).

Once all University systems have been tested and confirmed to work with Internet Explorer 8, the Office of Information Technology will provide information about upgrading.

New Summer Elective Class: Work with Kids at Camp Erin

Social Work Professor Bonnie Kenaley, in partnership with the Moyer Foundation, has created a new experiential learning course to help grieving children. The course, "Helping Bereaved Children," is a 3 unit class offered this summer to undergraduate juniors and seniors as well as graduate students in all disciplines.

The course runs from June 10 – August 16 and includes three class sessions, team meetings, and culminates with one weekend camp session in August. As the culminating activity in the class, students will attend Camp Erin in Donnelly and present an activity to camp staff, that can be incorporated into the children's healing process.

Hailed as "Four Recorder Virtuosos" by the New York Times, QNG took top honors at the 2004 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. QNG mesmerizes its audiences through inventive programming that juxtaposes contemporary and early music. Playing on upwards of 20 different recorders during the course of a typical performance, and with such high intensity and theatrical flair, the Quartet transports the listener into new sonic worlds, confirming the recorder's viability as a modern classical instrument.

Take Back the Night!

Unite with survivors, advocates and allies in your community to SPEAK OUT against Sexual Assault on Friday, April 17th at 7:30pm.

Join us at the Family Advocacy Center and Education Services (FACES) building at 417 S. 6th Street in downtown Boise. Events begin with a rally. Speakers include a former coordinator of the Women’s Center; the director of Men Today Men Tomorrow; and a Boise State student. Information will be made available on Idaho sexual assault statistics, deconstructing attitudes that perpetuate violence, the role of men in speaking out against sexual assault, violence prevention and survivorship. Participants are then invited to a march up Capitol Blvd to demonstrate your support for survivors. A gender-specific sharing circle will form at Capitol Park to give a voice to your experiences of sexual assault in a safe, confidential setting after the rally and march. Trained professionals will be on hand to facilitate discussion.
