Stay Safe! Opt in at Bronco Web

A new academic year is upon us; it's the perfect time to register your personal contact information into the emergency notification system at Boise State.

Opt In is a phone and text-based system that allows the university to notify students, faculty, and staff immediately when an emergency is taking place on or near campus. But in order to get those messages, no matter where you are, on or off campus, you must register your personal contact information.

This system will only be used in critical situations with potential to affect your health or safety and your personal contact information, such as your cell phone, home phone, or home e-mail, will never be shared or used for any other communication purposes.

Registering is easy, just sign in to BroncoWeb and look for the Opt In button. For more information, check out this web page: news.boisestate.edu/opt-in.

Annual Getting Organized Meetings
for Student Organizations

It's time for the annual Getting Organized Meetings! All University Recognized Student organizations (except Club Sports) are REQUIRED to have one officer attend one of these meetings to maintain recognition. All the meetings are the same and are 60 minutes long—officers can choose any of them to go to. Advisors are strongly encouraged to attend one of these meetings, as well, but it is not required. Club Sport groups do not have to go to one of these sessions; rather they must attend a different version held by Campus Recreation.
  • September 3, Getting Organized Meeting 1, 12:00pm, HATCH A (2nd floor)
  • September 10, Getting Organized Meeting 2, 10:40am, LOOKOUT (3rd floor)

Samulnori - Traditional Korean Music

We would like to cordially invite everyone to the Samulnori performance held September 11th, 2009 at the Special Events Center (SPEC) in the Student Union Building. The performances will be at 4:30pm, and another at 7pm.

Samulnori is an art form, and more specifically, a musical composition. There are moments of excitement and relaxation, and climaxes are built and subside peacefully, like waves. The emergence of samulnori as a well-established art form broadened the horizons of traditional Korean music, bringing it into the global spotlight.

Free on-campus parking will be available at the Liberal Arts parking lot and at the Lincoln Parking garage.

This event is sponsored by:
Korean Student Association of Boise State
Cultural Center of Boise State
Idaho Arts Commission
Idaho Korean Association

For additional information please contact: Saul Solis at saulsolis@boisestate.edu or (208) 585-1399

See ya there!!!

Returning Women's Mentor Program

A growing number of women at Boise State University are coming back to school after a formal break in their education. Sometimes these women are referred to as "non-traditional students," but there is nothing non-traditional about their growing numbers and abilities to succeed. Recognizing that this is a vital time of transition, the Women's Center created the Returning Women's Mentoring Program to provide these students with additional resources and support services.

The primary purpose of the Mentor Program is to provide support and information to new women students returning to college after an interruption in their formal education. Mentors are valuable campus leaders who can help create a welcoming environment for new students in efforts to ease their transition and increase the likelihood of retaining them.

Please come by the Women's Center for applications (both mentors and mentees) and additional information regarding the program or call Jamie Lange @ (208) 426-5390 or by e-mail at jamielange@boisestate.edu.

Get connected, find resources, make friends, ensure success!

Nominate The Extraordinary Women In Your Life!

Since 2001, the Boise State Women's Center has honored local "Women Making History" . . . ordinary women leading extraordinary lives. These women (students, faculty, staff, community members around Idaho) are interviewed and their stories published in The Statesman in March and subsequently honored at our annual gala.

This publication has become a tradition in our Women's History Month celebration. We are now calling for nominations for the March 2010 honorees. We are looking for those extraordinary stories of women who challenge sexist stereotypes and norms, work/advocate for equality within institutions (law, health care, education, etc.), role model healthy self-esteem and self-worth, break ground in traditionally male dominated fields (sports, engineering, politics, etc.), or challenge other forms of oppression (racism, ageism, etc.) If you know of a woman who deserves to be honored for her contributions to Idaho, please nominate her today.

You can pick up a nomination form at the Women's Center in the Student Union Building or call us at (208) 426-4259 to nominate someone. All nominations need to be turned in by submission date: September 25, 2009 by 5:00pm.

If you have not yet nominated a special woman making a difference in yours and other's lives, now is the time!
