Student Writing Workshops
Fall 2008
The staff of the Boise State Writing Center is
pleased to host a series of writing workshops to address an array of students’
common writing concerns. All interested students are invited to attend the
workshops, which will take place in the Writing Center, LA 200.
Chart Your Course: Getting Started On Writing Assignments
Wednesday, September 17, 4:45-5:30
Students are encouraged to bring syllabi and writing assignment guidelines to
this workshop. We will discuss how to read and understand the guidelines and how
to schedule backwards from due dates to allow for drafting and revising. We will
also explore different brainstorming and prewriting methods.
The Importance of Being Punctuated: Building Better Sentence Structure
Thursday, September 25, 4:45-5:30
Students are encouraged to bring punctuational ponderings to this workshop. We
will work through the difference between dependent/independent clauses, the
hierarchy of punctuation, and issues of correctness vs. style.
From Word Hoarder to Writer with Order: An Organizational Journey
Wednesday, October 15, 4:45-5:30
In this workshop we will discuss how to create a thesis, how to support one, and
how to transition from topic to topic within a paper.
Don’t Smite the Cite: Working with Sources in your Writing
Thursday, October 23, 4:45-5:30
In this workshop we will explore how to integrate relevant sources into a text,
while avoiding plagiarism. We will cover basic formatting techniques and tips
for MLA & APA Students are encouraged to bring specific formatting questions to
this session.
