Curriculum Change Process

  1. Draft Proposal — Kuali Curriculum Management provides access to the latest versions of course descriptions, program admission requirements, and major requirements. By selecting “Create a new course,” “Create a new program or emphasis,” “Duplicate a course, program, or emphasis,” or “Propose changes to an existing course, program, or emphasis,” users can initiate a draft proposal.

This step also includes sharing and comments functionality, enabling multiple individuals to collaborate on a draft proposal simultaneously.
  2. Submit for Approval — submitting proposals in Kuali Curriculum Management.
  3. Department and College Approval — Curriculum proposals are reviewed by the department chair, the college, division, or school curriculum committee, and the associate dean of the originating college.
  4. Library Dean Notification – For resource and material allocation
  5. University Curriculum Committee (UCC) or Graduate Council (GC) — The Faculty Senate specifies that the University Curriculum Committee “supervise all undergraduate offerings of the university determining that curricular changes be compatible with existing programs, feasible under given circumstances, and consistent with the educational objectives of Boise State University under state and federal law.” These duties are also typical of the Graduate Council and other curriculum management stakeholders. The goal of curriculum committees is not to dispatch proposals, but rather to expedite approval at higher levels, and to facilitate excellence in curricula.
  6. General Education Council (GEC) Approval — For a course to have the University Foundation designation.
  7. Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness Approval
  8. Idaho State Board of Education (SBOE) Approval — Required for new degree and certificate programs
