Questions about Annual Evaluations

The Executive Summary in the Annual Evaluation Process for Calendar Year 2021 folder outlines the differences. 

  1. Deadlines have been shifted again this year
    1. From February 1 to February 22 for faculty to submit to supervisor.
    2. From March 31 to May 1 for supervisors to complete evaluations.
    3. From April 15 to May 15 for faculty to acknowledge the evaluation (and for it to be available to the dean).
  2. New this year: Option to include a Pandemic Impact Statement. Faculty will be expected to follow their college, school, and/or department expectations for completing their activity reports in Faculty 180 and submitting any reflections or self-evaluations that are required. However, this year faculty will have the option to submit a Pandemic Impact Statement with their materials. See Guidelines for Optional Pandemic Impact Statements.
  1. Option to note the impact of the pandemic on individual faculty activities.  Faculty will continue to have the option to note the type of impact the pandemic has had on their specific activities for 2021 using the drop-down Activity Classifications in Faculty 180.
  1. Option to apply post-hoc workload adjustments.  Faculty will continue to have the option to apply post-hoc workload adjustments that are calculated on the basis of formulas applied to self-reported inputs.These adjustments rebalance the emphasis for evaluators in determining and documenting performance ratings for each area of responsibility.

Which semesters are included in the “affected term” for this year?

For the purposes of evaluating calendar year 2021, Spring , Fall, and Summer 2021 are considered part of the “affected term.”

What do faculty need to include?

Do I have to write a self-evaluation this year?

If your unit typically requires you to write a self-evaluation narrative, then you would do so. 

Faculty will also have the option to include a Pandemic Impact Statement with their materials. See Guidelines for Optional Pandemic Impact Statements.

Do I need to include template language in my materials this year?

Yes, faculty should include the template language provided in their self-evaluation to ensure that their evaluation record restates the expectations of the Faculty Evaluation Procedural Appendix for future reviewers. The template language has been revised from last year.

How do I calculate and enter workload?

Where do I enter my workload in Faculty 180? Is it required?

YES! Faculty are expected to create records for their workload assignments just as they do for their other activities. For a step-by-step explanation, see How to Enter Workload in F180. Here’s a brief overview:

From the “Activities” page, click “Workload” and then “Add” to create a record, one for each semester.

Each record should report workload for one semester only (e.g., Spring 2021 will be one record and Fall 2021 will be a separate one).

  • For regular 9-month faculty, workload for a given fall or spring semester should total to 50%.
  • For 10-12-month faculty, workload for a given fall, spring, or summer semester should total to 33%

How do I use the workload calculators in the Faculty Evaluation Procedural Appendix?

What if I don’t want to use the “Compounding Factors” calculator, but I do want to adjust my teaching workload to reflect the time I actually spent?

Faculty may choose whether to use the workload calculators in the Procedural Appendix. If you do not wish to enter a percentage for “Leave/Offset” that reflects compounding factors, you don’t have to. Please note that no explanation is necessary if you do choose to include compounding factors in a post hoc workload adjustment.
