UF Course Proposals

Call for 100-Level UF Course Proposals

The faculty who design and teach a 100-level UF course often say it is one of the most challenging and meaningful teaching opportunities they have ever engaged in.

Boise State’s 100-level University Foundations courses (UF 101, UF 102, etc.) are meant to introduce entering students to college and to college-level inquiry, helping them become more active and expert learners as they investigate and communicate about important ideas that affect everyone. Every year, University Foundations offers over thirty 100-level UF courses, each focused on a different thematic topic: from Shakespeare to climate change, from capitalism to the search for extraterrestrial life.

Is there an exciting question from your field you believe would spark the curiosity of college freshmen? Maybe you should teach a 100-level UF course during our next three-year cycle! Consult with your college, then complete and submit a proposal questionnaire for a new or renewing course. (Proposed courses must be offered at least once annually during the following three-year course cycle, Fall 2027-Spring 2030.)

How to Apply

In October, submitted proposals will be reviewed by colleges and the General Education Committee of the Faculty Senate. Faculty will be notified about final approvals in November. You can learn more about University Foundations and the proposal process at our September 2026 information sessions or by contacting University Foundations (UniversityFoundations@boisestate.edu) for an individual meeting.
