2.2 Enough Time

Provide users enough time to read and use content.

WCAG 2.2, Guideline 2.2
Enough time

What is it?

No one likes to be rushed. This criteria ensures your users have enough time to read content and complete tasks.

Why does this matter?

Everyone completes tasks at their own pace. By allowing users to control tasks and not rushing them you:

  • Improve user experience
  • Assist users with disabilities
  • Create more engaging interactions

How do I check that my content is giving users enough time?

Except for events happening in real-time or are essential time-based activities, ensure users can adjust, turn off, or extend time limits as needed.

Allow users to start, stop, and pause any moving, blinking, scrolling, or auto-updating content.

Unless essential, do not impose time limits on users.

Except in the cases of emergencies, users must be able to postpone or suppress any updates or alerts.

Bottom line…

Users should control their experience and have enough time to complete tasks.
