What to Expect at Boise State Orientation

You said yes to Boise State, and now it’s time to make it official. Orientation is your first real day as a Bronco, and it’s going to be a big one. Here’s what you need to know before you show up.

Two young women smile at a green outdoor table on campus with a "Bronco Welcome" sign and students walking in the background.

The basics

Orientation runs from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Yes, it’s a full day, and it’s packed on purpose. By the end of it, you’ll have met your academic advisor, registered for classes, toured campus, and made some new friends. Come ready to be on your feet and on the go.

What to bring

  • Refillable water bottle
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Light jacket (buildings get cold!)
  • Notebook and pen
  • Laptop and charger
  • Backpack or bag (to carry your items)

Meet your advisor, register for classes

One of the most important things you’ll do at orientation is sit down with an academic advisor from your college. They’ll walk you through your first-semester schedule, covering Math, English, and University Foundations courses, and help you figure out where you land based on your major and any AP or dual-credit experience you already have. If you have college credits, bring that info!

Dinner at Buster’s Kitchen

Orientation students will have dinner at Buster’s Kitchen. It’s a great chance to take a breath, grab some food, and actually talk to the people around you. These are going to be your classmates, your neighbors, maybe your best friends. Dinner’s a good place to start.

Evening activities

After dinner, the night is yours to explore. Options include:

  • Lawn games
  • Games center
  • Crafting
  • Climbing wall
  • Rec Center
  • Free bike rentals

Just show up, try something, and meet people. One last thing: everyone at orientation is new. Nobody knows where anything is. Everyone is a little nervous. Lean into it, say hi to the person next to you, and remember, you belong here!
