Kay Hardy ’74, ’84
Former Idaho Commission of the Arts Chair; President, Idaho Trout Company; President, Hardy Foundation, Inc.
College of Arts and Sciences
Kay Hardy is an artist’s artist. Having studied at Boise State under the late internationally recognized ceramicist Professor John. S. Takehara, Hardy found her love of ceramics and incorporated that into her craft. Takehara’s mentorship also set a standard of service that led Hardy to give back to other artists throughout her career through volunteer board work with Idaho art organizations, and eventually contribute her expertise to the genesis and construction of Boise State’s Center for the Visual Arts.
As a leader in the Idaho arts community, Hardy has served in board and volunteer leadership positions for the Idaho Commission on the Arts, Boise Art Museum, Ballet Idaho, Boise Philharmonic, and more. She has made her mark across Idaho arts organizations, and she’s received several awards, including the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts award, bestowed on her by Governor Brad Little, First Lady Teresa Little, and the Idaho Commission on the Arts. Hardy and her husband Gregory Kaslo are longtime art collectors, and have generously loaned and gifted several pieces to area exhibitions and Idaho galleries, including a ceramics collection to the Boise Art Museum.
The couple joined Boise State’s Visual Definition Committee, charged with providing design recommendations for the Center for the Visual Arts, and funded a gallery in the center to exhibit modern and contemporary art at Boise State. The gift gives the couple “tremendous pride in Boise State University, not only for its vision but for its belief in the power of art to transform lives.”
