Honored Faculty: Dr. Ken Cornell, Professor, Department of Chemistry

Cade Solich’s interest in a deeper relationship with Boise State University came early, and he joined the Associated Students of Boise State University (ASBSU) soon after arriving on campus. ASBSU membership opened many doors for Cade, who used it as an opportunity to campaign for student quality of life. Notably, he served as a Student Funding Board officer — a position in which he helped allocate $300,000 to clubs and organizations across the university — and participated in Honors College activities, which sharpened his leadership and interpersonal skills.
Attracted to the sciences, Cade pursued research, and worked to develop a device that uses plasma to eradicate biofilms from chronic wounds, a prevalent issue in healthcare, under the guidance of Dr. Ken Cornell, a professor in the Department of Chemistry. Cade’s research led him to co-author and present posters on the college, state and international levels. He also received the NASA EPSCoR fellowship in 2021, which allowed him to test a plasma jet device for NASA.
After graduation, Cade will pursue medicine. He’ll follow up on his research, as well as a medical internship at Tadje Orthopedics and volunteering at the Boise VA Medical Center. He will apply to medical school after taking gap years, during which he’ll serve his community.
Cade is from Eagle, Idaho.
