Laurie Blakeslee

Professor, Art Foundations Coordinator

MFA Photography University of Arizona, Tucson

Laurie relies on the paradox of the photograph’s ability to define a moment yet be a tool of deception and uses photographic fictions to suggest mental anxieties. Her recent creative activity is concentrated in two bodies of artwork. object is a series of video and photographic installation addressing abstraction, voyeurism and body representation. Making Believe is a series of large-scale digital photographs of figurines in staged tableaus fabricating social interaction. Her photographs have been exhibited nationally and recognized by artists and scholars, including Deborah Bright, Carol Squires and Barbara Ess.
Laurie coordinates the undergraduate Art Foundations program at Boise State University. As well as teaching Foundation courses, she teaches Intermediate and Advanced Photography.  She is an associate graduate faculty member in the Master of Fine Arts program. Laurie is a founding member and co-organizer of the annual Queer as Film festival (QAF, queerasfilmboise.com), a project of the BSU Cultural Ethnic Diversity Board.
