Statement on Leadership and Legislation Updates within ASBSU

BOISE, Idaho –
Following the recent vacancy in the position of Associate Vice President of Health and Wellness (AVPHW), Diego Tapia has been appointed to the role and subsequently confirmed by the Academic Senate of the Associated Students of Boise State University during their weekly Joint Meeting on Monday October 20th.

Tapia’s appointment reflects ASBSU’s continued commitment to advancing student well-being, fostering inclusive health initiatives, and supporting the campus community through collaboration and advocacy of the student body. In his new role, Tapia will oversee the health and wellness committee, work alongside university partners, and represent student perspectives in ongoing wellness initiatives. His plan includes the continuation of events fostering a clearer focus on health and wellness initiatives such as the annual Hygiene Drive.

Diego released the following statement regarding his appointment and confirmation as AVPHW:

“I want to thank the members of the ASBSU Senate and the ASBSU President for my confirmation as Associate Vice President of Health and Wellness. While recognizing this is a new position within our organization, I am fully committed to exploring the impact it may have across campus. While on the rise, awareness of campus resources still remains relatively low among the student body. This is my main motivation, as Associate Vice President of Health and Wellness, to support our campus partners and educate students about the health and wellness resources available on campus. This includes the continuation of widely successful projects like the ASBSU Hygiene Drive and programming for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, while also creating new initiatives through collaboration efforts with our campus community. I’m excited to begin working on these projects alongside amazing student leaders within ASBSU.”

In addition to Tapia’s confirmation, ASBSU is also excited to announce new leadership within its legislative bodies. Hunter Sparrow (First Year Representative) has been elected as the Assembly Leader, while Luca Collins (College of Business and Economics Senator) has been elected as the Senate Leader. These elections take place within their respective chambers, allowing each body to elect one of their members to serve as their lead and as a voting member on the Executive Cabinet. Both will play key roles in guiding student representation, attending weekly executive cabinet meetings, contributing to discussions, and planning legislative coordination within ASBSU.

ASBSU looks forward to the contributions of these new student leaders as they continue to grow their advocacy and support for the student body.

In addition to leadership changes, the last Joint meeting included discussion of multiple code changes regarding the removal of certain executive committee and presidential responsibilities. These changes were approved by both the Assembly and Senate, as well as signed off by ASBSU President, Isaac Celedon.
