Graduate Research Assistant at Vegetable Entomology Lab

THE CLEMENTS VEGETABLE ENTOMOLOGY LAB

The lab is seeking a highly motivated graduate research assistant for a Master or Doctorate level degree in Entomology, Plant Pathology, and Nematology (EPPN). The Clements Lab focuses on entomological concerns of agricultural pests in Idaho. Located at the Parma Research and Extension Center, Idaho, this position will be a funded research assistantship with three years of funding provided. This position will cover full tuition and approximately $24,000 for the 12-month salary.

This research assistant will focus on developing new insecticide resistance diagnostic techniques, including collaborating with the Walsh Lab (Washington State University) to develop new tools for field assessment of resistant mite populations. This position will require the student to work both in agricultural fields and in a molecular biology lab.

Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree in biology, entomology, or related field by the time the individual plans on starting this position. Students who have a degree in entomology or other agricultural field with a background in molecular biology are preferred. Applicants must meet minimum standards for the University of Idaho graduate program and demonstrated academic excellence.

The Research and Extension Center is located in the Treasure Valley of Idaho and provides students access to research fields and a molecular lab. Most individuals at the research station commute from nearby communities including Caldwell, Nampa, and Boise. Students will be expected to complete course work online, as the main campus is located in Moscow, ID (5 hours away by driving). The Clements Lab includes all molecular, computational and field equipment needed to complete the proposed research. Applicants will have the opportunity to interact with multiple major agriculturists in the state.
