Summary: Members will be able to participate in a variety of upland monitoring related tasks that support multiple disciplines in the district; some riparian monitoring may also occur. Tasks may vary day to day and will be conducted as a team with other ACE Members or working with BLM specialists. On occasion ACE Members may work alone. This will be primarily a field going position.

Summary: Assisting in upland monitoring studies, including but not limited to upland utilization, 17-Indicators for Rangeland Health, trend, and Habitat Assessment Framework (HAF). Completing inspections of existing range improvements such as exclosure fences, pipelines, and troughs. Collecting and Inputting results of range improvement inspections into BLM databases and project case files.

Botany Team Member and Riparian/Aquatics Team Member, Malheur Field Office

Summary: Duties for Riparian/Aquatics include monitoring annual and long-term riparian vegetation, geomorphic, and water quality attributes to ensure management objectives for habitat and watershed function are being met. Site visits will entail navigating to established remote sites, 1-5 mile hikes on steep rocky terrain, identifying riparian plant species, filling out site forms according to protocol, and entering data into specific BLM databases. Additional hydrology tasks include establishment of new monitoring transects and water quality stations with mentor. The office portion of Riparian/Aquatics will include managing Multiple Indicator Monitoring (MIM) databases for Vale District. The MIM database is based in Microsoft Access with embedded macros to calculate measured metrics and statistics. Spatial data will be entered into GIS using OR/WA BLM Aquatic Data Tools.

Noxious Weeds Team Member, Roseburg District Office

Summary: This position will support the Roseburg District’s noxious weed program. The work will be in support of various activities taking place on the Roseburg District, including timber, riparian restoration, recreation, and post-fire Burned Area Rehabilitation. Additional projects will take place at the North Bank Habitat Management Area, a 6,000 acre Area of Critical Environmental Concern managed for Columbian white-tailed deer habitat and several rare plant species.
