Congratulations to Navdeep Kalkat on His First Author Publication!

 Navdeep Kalkat

We are proud to congratulate Navdeep Kalkat, a Ph.D. student in the Biomolecular Sciences program, on achieving his first author publication in Experimental Eye Research! This milestone marks an exciting step forward in his research career and highlights the innovative work emerging from the Mainali Lab.

Navdeep’s study, “Temperature and cholesterol regulate the association of native bovine lens alpha-crystallin with in vitro reconstituted membranes made of synthetically prepared lipids and cholesterol,” explores how temperature and cholesterol influence α-crystallin, a critical protein responsible for maintaining the transparency and stability of the eye lens. Using advanced electron spin resonance techniques, his team investigated how these factors affect the interaction between α-crystallin and model lens membranes — an important process linked to cataract development.

Congratulations to Navdeep and co-authors Geraline Trossi-Torres, Preston Hazen, and Dr. Laxman Mainali on this important accomplishment and valuable contribution to the field of vision research!
