Abby Cain (Orlovich), a Spanish secondary education and International Business double major, has been selected for the highly competitive American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages’ (ACTFL) Center of Assessment and Research Development (CARD) summer program as an ACTFL Scholar.
This appointment is designed as a “pathway to the profession” for future world language leaders. Scholars will have the opportunity to: (1) explore the field, (2) further develop academic skills, and (3) accumulate professional experiences. In her role as a consultant, Abby will co-construct a project plan in collaboration with an ACTFL supervisor to ensure that the goals and benefits of the appointment are achieved. She will focus on curriculum-based projects such as implementing technology into the classroom via webinars, updating the oral proficiency interview (OPI) to be relevant for an extended group of learners, and the development of online course content.
Abby looks forward to expanding upon the language teaching strategies she has acquired as a World Languages Resource Center Conversation and Lab Desk Assistant at Boise State. She is excited to share her passion for language learning, as well as collaborate with future colleagues regarding the implementation of technology in the second language classroom. Abby is the first and currently only remote ACTFL Scholar, and the first Boise State language student to participate in an ACTFL internship.
