Fonda Portales, university art curator and collections manager, is announcing three new opportunities for creative students working in a variety of media:1. The Department of Research and Economic Development is seeking student artwork that speaks to the process of discovery through art and technology while emphasizing interdisciplinary motifs. All genres, styles and media, including sculpture, fiber and paper art, book art, performance art, and more, are eligible. The selected artist/maker will receive $500. Deadline: Dec. 18
2. The Department of Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability, in partnership with the University Art Curator and the Office of Research and Economic Development, is seeking student and community artwork that speaks to the theme of environmental sustainability for the annual exhibition, “People, Planet, Solutions” in 2019. Media may include robotics, augmented/virtual reality, textiles, puppets, and kites, found objects, shelters and more. Deadline: Jan. 5, 2019
3. The Department of Public Safety is calling for art entries (drawings, paintings, photography and more) for the Garage Art contest. Work will be displayed for a full year in 14 high-traffic areas of the Brady Street and Lincoln Avenue Garages. Current students, faculty and staff are eligible to submit works. Prizes include parking permits for the top three winners. Deadline: Dec. 18

“We want to showcase the creativity of our student campus and highlight their work in spaces around campus,” said Portales. “Art is an integral part of building a culture of campus belonging, and we want students to see themselves and their artworks included.”
