Talkin’ Broncos close out bracket to win New York’s Off Broadway Swing

The Boise State Talkin’ Broncos end the semester with their second-consecutive tournament championship at the Off-Broadway Swing hosted by Hofstra University on Dec. 3 and 5, 2022.

In Parliamentary Debate, the top-seed team of Dylan Pope (senior, Blackfoot) and Sara Beck (junior, Idaho Falls) and the second-seed team of Izzy Ceja (senior, Hailey) and Brie Ellison (senior, Eagle) both advanced to the semi-final round and closed out the tournament. Ellison was recognized with the first-place speaker award, Pope with the second-place speaker award, Beck with the third-place speaker award and Ceja with the fifth-place speaker award.

In Public Debate, Connor Allen (freshman, Meridian) finished in second-place and Anthony Thomas (freshman, Meridian) finished in third-place. Thomas was recognized with the fifth-place speaker award.

On day one of the swing in individual events, Pope led the team with a second-place finish in both extemporaneous speaking and duo interpretation and fifth-place overall in individual events. Ben Smoldon (junior, Boise) took second-place in duo interpretation. Beck took third-place in persuasive speaking, and fourth-place in both informative speaking and impromptu speaking. Alison Hurst (junior, Boise) took fifth-place in impromptu speaking. On day two of the swing, Allen took second-place in persuasive speaking, Kate Jacobson (senior, Boise) took third-place in both prose interpretation and informative speaking, and Allie Hampton (freshman, Meridian) took third-place in extemporaneous speaking and fourth-place in informative speaking.

The Talkin’ Broncos continue their 2022-2023 season with their third conference tournament at Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington.
