Boise State Creative Writing MFA alum Mary Pauline Lowry published her third novel, Last Night Was Killer, with William Morrow, an imprint of Harper Collins, this summer. A comedic murder mystery set in Boise, Idaho, the novel follows Tilly Turner, a stand-up comedian and single mother of twin girls, who must turn amateur detective to prove her innocence when she finds a dead man in her trunk.
The novel, recently selected as a Must Read for Summer by People Magazine, earned much early praise. Author Rufi Thorpe, who penned the novel Margot’s Got Money Troubles, said, “I have never had so much fun watching a fictional character try to figure out if she killed someone or not. Wild, outrageous, silly, smart, Tilly is a heroine for the ages and Mary Lowry writes like no one else. A damn delight.”
Lowry graduated from the Boise State Creative Writing MFA Program in 2019. She authored the novels Wildfire and The Roxy Letters. The latter served as her MFA thesis. She taught for the Creative Writing MFA program from 2022-2024 as a Visiting Lecturer.
