{"id":98541,"date":"2024-09-03T12:02:57","date_gmt":"2024-09-03T18:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/coas\/?p=98541"},"modified":"2024-09-11T09:49:15","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T15:49:15","slug":"corless-smith-publishes-poetry-collection-his-13th-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/coas\/2024\/09\/03\/corless-smith-publishes-poetry-collection-his-13th-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Corless-Smith publishes poetry collection, his 13th book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Creative Writing professor and Director of the Creative Writing MFA Program, Martin Corless-Smith, published &#8220;Golden Satellite Debris ,&#8221; his 13th book of poetry. &#8220;The title points towards a sense of the wonder and glory of life on this planet,&#8221; Corless-Smith wrote in his author&#8217;s note. &#8220;The <em>Golden<\/em>\u00a0(with a hint of the sun setting no doubt), but also a sense of life as an aftermath,\u00a0<em>Debris<\/em>, a sort of arbitrary and accidental outcome of equations and collisions only some of which we are aware of. I see the earth as a<em>\u00a0Satellite<\/em>, a contingent object moving in space, but on a smaller scale also the human and the poem, spinning around some unknown centre, whether we call that truth, being, love or death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Worcestershire, England, Martin Corless-Smith earned a BA and an MFA in painting and printmaking, an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers\u2019 Workshop and a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Utah.<em>\u00a0<\/em>His book of translations,<em> &#8220;<\/em>Odious Horizons: Some versions of Horace&#8221; came out in 2019.\u00a0 In 2020, Parlor Press published &#8220;The Poet\u2019s Tomb,&#8221; his collection of essays. He edits the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freepoetrypress.com\/\">Free Poetry<\/a>\u00a0series.<\/p>\n<p><a
