Eric Sheldon Gooden was born and raised in Idaho. Gooden graduated from Nampa High School in the spring of 1995. He later enrolled at Boise State University where he graduated summa cum laude while earning his bachelor in business administration with a major in accountancy in 2003. Gooden continued his education at Boise State where he earned his master of science in accountancy in the spring of 2004, where he earned distinction as the outstanding graduate of the MSA program. Upon graduation, he worked as a staff auditor for KPMG LLP.

In 2007, Gooden enrolled in the accounting doctoral program at Florida State University. There he focused on accounting research employing experimental-behavioral methodology. He earned his Ph.D. degree in accounting in the summer of 2012. Gooden has worked as an assistant professor in accounting at Virginia Commonwealth University since the fall of 2012. Gooden’s research and teaching interests include both financial accounting and auditing topics. In the fall of 2014, Gooden’s study, “The Impact of Rule Precision, Information Ambiguity, and Conflicting Incentives on Aggressive Reporting” was published in the journal Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research.

Gooden chose to return to Boise to be closer to his three teenage children as well as the rest of his extended family. Moreover, returning to his alma mater is a wonderful opportunity to have a positive impact for Boise State students. As a first-generation college student, he credits the accounting faculty at Boise State as a source of strength, guidance, and support throughout his collegiate, professional and personal life. He credits the accounting faculty with much of his professional and personal growth over the years and hopes to have a similar impact in his career at Boise State.

His hobbies include running, reading, and weightlifting. His passions include watching his beloved Florida State football team and watching movies.
