The recent EMBAX Alumni Connect & Counsel event brought together Executive MBA alumni and the current EMBA cohort for an inspiring evening of conversation, mentorship, and professional connection. The purpose was to deepen connections across cohorts, helping ensure the EMBA community serves as a lasting source of guidance and support.
Alumni, now leaders in their fields, shared real world experiences along with insights on career life after graduation. Participants were able to learn directly from people who have walked the same path, and built success after completing the EMBA program, giving Alumni the chance to reconnect with the program.
What makes EMBA Relationships Unique
Courtney White, EMBA Instructor and Adjunct Faculty says that behind her idea of the event came a belief that “the most enduring resource of the EMBA program isn’t textbooks, it’s people.” White added that many participants find value in sharing perspectives within their cohort. But she wanted to expand that circle to connect across cohorts, across time, and across experiences.
“When I think about my own education, I have shelves of textbooks I haven’t opened in decades, yet I continue to learn from my alumni circle.”

“Professional networks are part of work life. I might correspond with contacts in other states to exchange advice. But when the common interest ends, so does the relationship.”
White shares that “Once an EMBA, always an EMBA. Community members remain ready to support a fellow EMBA. The depth of relationships within a cohort is strong, but there’s also a connection to anyone who has lived the EMBA experience. They show up with a genuine interest in the person and in what their success looks like.”
“Our alumni network has grown into an incredible resource. These are lifelong learners who adapt to new challenges and a changing world. Long-term, we hoped this event would seed connections across the greater EMBA community, so alumni and current participants are better able to support each other.”
Alumni in Action
The event’s format called for participants to step into something new, brief one-on-one conversations, filling the room quickly with energy and meaningful conversation.
“Three minutes into the first round, I looked around and the floor was already bubbling with animated conversations. This didn’t look like strangers talking, it looked like old friends catching up.”
Conversations in the room buzzed from topics like managing rapid industry shifts, AI adaptation, and major life transitions such as moving from military to civilian life and exchanging leadership strategies.

A Beacon of Light
“You know the scene in The Lord of the Rings when “The Beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid!” and the king is asked, “How will you answer?” For us, that took the form of an email to EMBA alumni and they answered.”
As the EMBA program evolves, the EMBAX Alumni Connect & Counsel event may become a foundational tradition, building an active community with experience, and shared ambition for both alumni and current participants, it opened doors to collaboration, connection and a sense of belonging that lasts far beyond graduation.
