Here are 10 questions to guide you in preparing your 90-second pitch and one-page summary. Answer each one in your own words. At the end, you’ll bring everything together into a clear, compelling pitch.

Your Audience

1. List your target customers or customer groups. Who are you trying to help?

2. Identify your most important customer or customer group. Which group do you care about most?

The Problem

3. Identify the need or critical issue facing this customer group. What problems or challenges do they face?

4. Quantify the need listed above in dollars, time, productivity, stress, etc. How big or important is this problem?

Your Idea

5. Indicate the unique name of your product or service. What’s your idea called (even a working title)?

6. Identify a generally understood category of product or service to which your idea belongs. Is it an app, a product, a service, or something else?

7. List the benefits (not the features) your idea provides to the customer. How does it make their life better?

8. Identify the single most compelling benefit and quantify it. What’s the #1 way your idea makes a difference?

Competition & Differentiation

9. List the products or services that compete with your idea. What are people doing or using instead?

10. Develop a statement of the primary differentiation of your idea compared to competitors. What makes your idea stand out?

Next Step: Put it all together
Now, we will develop the actual pitch. Use your answers from the previous page to fill in each space below:

For: (Use your answer from #2)

who: (Use your answer from #3 and #4)

the: (Use your answer from #5)

is a: (Use your answer from #6)

that: (Use your answer from #8)

Unlike: (Use your answer from #9)

our: (Use your answer from #10)

After filling in the blanks above, read the full statements with the lead-in word(s). You may need to adjust your wording slightly to make it flow smoothly. Feel free to expand phrases for clarity, but we recommend keeping the order as it is — it starts with the customer and ends with what makes your idea unique. Adapt this format for the one-page summary.
