Sustainability is an important aspect of modern-day business and John Bernardo, a sustainability strategist at Idaho Power, dove into sustainability with COBE students and members of Net Impact. Bernardo talked about how students can help businesses become sustainable in finance, environmental and social aspects. Bernardo suggests that we must focus on the financial aspects of making businesses sustainable. In doing so, we will most likely affect the environmental and social aspects.
Micaela Smith, vice president of Boise State’s Net Impact chapter arranged for Bernardo to speak.
“I have had the pleasure of working with John Bernardo for the past year on annual, student-led COBE sustainability report,” Smith said. “He has been a wonderful mentor to me and his examples of business success through sustainability are really inspiring. I wanted more students to hear John’s perspective on sustainability and inspire them to increase profits through evaluating social, environmental, and financial impacts. Net Impact emphasizes changing how business students look at business, and John was the perfect speaker to start that conversation.”
