On May 6th, 2022, the American Nuclear Society’s (ANS) Board of Directors approved the establishment of a student chapter at Boise State University (BSU). BSU now joins Idaho State University and University of Idaho as state representatives in the ANS community. The ANS student section recognition will provide BSU students with resources and opportunities in the field of nuclear energy.

Before the inception of the student chapter, a group of materials science and engineering students from the Advanced Materials Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Brian Jaques started a nuclear energy club on campus in 2018. The club is now composed of students from different departments in the College of Engineering as well as the College of Innovation and Design and College of Arts and Sciences. The club is active both on and off campus by participating in various events such as Rake-Up Boise, SheTech, and Bronco Day. The club is excited to transition to an ANS student section and continue to advocate for nuclear energy as a clean, carbon free energy source in Idaho. You can read more about the new student chapter here.
