Machine learning is one of the hottest areas of technical activity in the industry today, spanning a broad set of engineering challenges involving hardware, software, and mathematics. This brief talk will highlight some of the technical, managerial, and educational paths available for engineers in the embedded systems and semiconductor industries with a focus on recent developments in machine learning. Learning to be a lifelong malcontent can lead you to build an engaging, successful career in a constantly evolving industry.
Jim Hall joined Perceive in 2018 as Vice President of Hardware to help enable state‑of‑the‑art inferencing on edge devices running at extremely low power. Prior to Perceive, he was VP of Engineering at Natural Intelligence Semiconductor and served in R&D leadership positions at Micron, Marvell, and Agilent. He earned a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boise State University in 2014.
