Seminar September 28: LED Flicker Free HDR Imaging

Presentation Abstract

High dynamic range (HDR) along with high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at high temperature is required for automotive, security, medical, IoT, factory automation, and many other applications. In addition, LED flicker mitigation (LFM) to capture low duty cycle LED pulses at all light levels is required. Linear response and high spatial resolution are preferred for accuracy of color processing and recognition rate, respectively. This paper presents a Backside illumination (BSI) lateral overflow 3.0um 2.6Mpixels HDR LFM CMOS image sensor with single exposure 96dB dynamic range to fulfill those requirements. In addition, the proposed sensor employs second exposure with short integration time subsequent to lateral overflow capture for 120dB dynamic range, while lateral overflow along with split photodiode (PD) has been presented in IEDM 2018 [1]. A comparative study of both sensors will be shown in the presentation.

Bio

Currently works for amsOSRAM as VP of Engineering and R&D for CIS Business Line, leading their pixel development, system architecture, design, validation, and test groups. Previously, Scott has worked for ON Semiconductor (formerly Aptina / Micron Imaging) from 2003 to 2020 holding multiple positions ranging from Optoelectronic Characterization Engineer to Sr. Director of Technology Business Alignment. Bachelors of Science in Engineering from the University of Idaho, graduating in 2003.
