The ECE Department invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty appointments, adjunct opportunities, and more.

Collaborate, discover, innovate, and inspire! The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boise State University is seeking talented and passionate individuals to join us. People who want to make a profound impact in your field and the lives of students through cutting-edge research, outreach, instruction, and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is part of the vibrant College of Engineering, which is ranked in the top 150 colleges by US News & World Report for both undergraduate and graduate programs. The College offers a variety of accredited programs and receives a high level of support from industry in Idaho and the Intermountain West.

Through the newly established Institute for Microelectronics Education and Research, faculty will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders across all areas of microelectronics. Our strong partnership with Micron Technology’s R&D facilities in Boise, Idaho, and a future $15B manufacturing facility will open doors to unparalleled research and manufacturing engagement.

Boise State University has also been recently awarded an NIH Phase 1 Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE). This award in Convergent Engineering and Biomolecular Science supports a research theme in biomedical devices, sensors, and systems.

A new program called “Semiconductor for All” has been funded by an Idaho Workforce Development Council grant. Semiconductor for All will enable education leaders at Boise State University to develop outreach and courses and to develop stronger education pathways for the semiconductor industry for students from their first years of elementary school through high school, from their bachelor’s degree to their Ph.D.

All of these initiatives are propelling us into new territory and we’re excited to invite you along as we continue to build robust, people-centered programs that deliver high-quality educational opportunities.

Adjunct Professors

Industry professionals can contribute as adjunct professors, teaching courses in a variety of specialty areas.  We are eager to build a pool of qualified instructors in the areas of circuits, digital systems, and microprocessors. This spring, we have specific needs for ECE 230 lab (multiple sections) and ECE 245. To apply for a temporary teaching position, please complete our adjunct application.

  • ECE 230L Digital Systems Lab is a one-credit lab experience focused on the design, construction, and testing of small digital logic circuits using TTL and CMOS chips. The use of FPGA-based prototyping boards with schematic capture and simulation also features heavily in the lab’s deliverables.
    • Section 1 Tuesdays from 4:30 to 7:15 PM
    • Section 2 Tuesdays from 9 to 11:45 AM
    • Section 3 Thursdays from noon to 2:45 PM
  • ECE 245 Intro to Electronic Materials is a one-credit lecture providing an introduction to basic materials concepts relevant to electrical engineering including energy band diagrams, insulators, conductors, and semiconductors. Other important topics include bonding in common semiconductor device materials; conduction and valence bands; semiconductor device doping: donors and acceptors; Fermi energy, and Fermi level; carrier transport mechanisms: drift, diffusion, and generation/recombination; conductivity, resistivity, mobility; and the operation of diodes and selected transistor types. Schedule for Spring Term (Jan 8 – Apr 26, 2024): N/A, online course.

Assistant / Associate Professors

Make a profound impact in your field and the lives of students through cutting-edge research, outreach, instruction, and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boise State University is seeking to add several people to the department who love their work, enjoy balance, appreciate the outdoors, are competent communicators and collaborators, might have a dog, and want to live in a place as wild and wonderful as Boise. Four of those amazing humans are needed for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level for fall 2024. Outstanding candidates will ideally have a doctoral degree in electrical and computer engineering (or a similar field) with experience teaching and in industry. We are interested in attracting educators who care about teaching effectiveness and prioritize student success. Applicants may come from a range of disciplines and theoretical approaches but must have relevant expertise. After evaluating the needs of our programs and our constituents, we’ve identified four essential areas (details linked below) of focus.  Finalists will be able to demonstrate collaboration in a group interview setting. We expect to be interviewing top candidates for all four areas by Zoom in December. On-campus interviews are expected in January and February 2024.

  • Biomedical Engineering (review underway; no longer accepting applications)

We’ve started reviewing and will consider all applications completed by January 2, 2024.

Clinical Assistant Professors

Two Clinical Assistant Professor positions have been announced for fall 2024. More information coming soon.

Semiconductor for All

Funding from the CHIPS Act is helping us create several positions to support new semiconductor education programming. More information coming soon.

About Us

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Boise State offers dynamic and exciting programs designed to emphasize problem-based learning with an innovative and engaging curriculum. We offer two bachelor of science degrees: Electrical Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering. The BS CSE is a new undergraduate program developed in response to industry demands for educating and training next-generation engineers capable of integrating software and hardware solutions to produce secure and stable systems.

We also offer a minor in Electrical Engineering as well as several certificate options, including Biomedical Instrumentation, Cyber Operations, Cyber-physical Systems for all majors, and a series of certificates related to the Security of Cyber-physical Systems. At the graduate level, we offer a master of science, a master of engineering, and a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering.

Our students come from all regions and backgrounds and we expect that by the time they graduate, they are prepared to understand diverse perspectives, evaluate electrical and computer engineering problems, conduct research, communicate effectively, create networks, and lead innovative change.
