Science and Math Electives
Choose a field that matches your interests
The science elective required in the BSME degree table can be satisfied by any combination of approved science and mathematics courses totaling at least four (4) credits.
The Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering Department has developed a list of pre-approved science and mathematics electives based on the following definitions of basic science and mathematics:
-
- Science courses satisfying the science elective include chemistry, physics, life, earth, and space sciences. Science courses must meet our required level of rigor to satisfy the science elective.
- Mathematics courses must meet our required level of rigor to satisfy the science elective. Pre-calculus preparation courses do not provide the appropriate level of rigor for the science elective.
- Courses required by the BSME degree, such as PHYS 211 or MATH 275, cannot also be used to satisfy the science-elective requirement.
Courses not on the pre-approved list may still be used to satisfy the Science and Mathematics required elective, as long as the following conditions are satisfied:
-
- The course satisfies our definition of science or mathematics;
- The student’s advisor approves the course; and
- The course is not required for the BSME degree.
