Biography
Md Athikul Islam is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate under the supervision of Dr. Edoardo Serra, with a research focus on Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and Agentic AI. His work centers on enhancing the robustness and security of NLP systems, particularly in the context of LLMs.
Originally from Bangladesh, Athikul brings over seven years of industry experience as a Senior Software Engineer, primarily with a Netherlands-based tech company. His research contributions have been published in leading venues such as the ECML-PKDD conference, the ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology (TIST) journal, and the KDD@MLoG-GenAI workshop.
In the summer of 2025, he completed a Ph.D. internship at Uber Technologies Inc. as a Ph.D. Software Engineer (ML) within the Search Relevance & Optimization Team, where he contributed to applied machine learning efforts in search systems.
