Nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) that appear in the sciences and engineering have always piqued my interest. My current study is on numerical simulations of nonlinear PDEs that simulate various geoenvironmental phenomena, whereas my earlier work concentrated on the analytical treatment of nonlinear PDEs.
Particular problems that I am interested in include the development of numerical models to simulate the fate and transport of post-wildfire toxic contaminants in soil environments and the investigation of the effects of the wildfires on the physical, chemical, and biogeochemical properties of the soil and surface materials, especially the procedure of soil contamination by wildfire events.

My main research interest is in modeling and predicting the placebo effect for different therapies and disease types. While my research will focus on neurodegenerative diseases, I am interested to see if the placebo effect is similar across a variety of diseases. I hope to use this information to create a program that will generate accurate, simulated placebo data for clinical trials that did not enroll a placebo group. I hope to expand this program to generate simulated data for active treatment groups based on the expected treatment effect of the investigational medicinal product.

I have previously developed a computational model to predict joint mechanics in the implanted knee, and my Ph.D. work is supported through the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. I am currently working on developing a computational framework with the potential to transform how clinicians make patient-specific diagnosis and treatment decisions about osteoarthritis. Critical project milestones include:
- Expanding and incorporating existing automated image segmentation algorithms into a pipeline which will allow us to automate production of patient-specific finite element (FE) models of the arthritic knee using only magnetic resonance (MR) images as inputs
- Using the automatic model production pipeline to produce a training set of knee models, I will develop FE independent statistical models that can instantaneously predict output joint mechanics in the degrading knee joint to provide meaningful feedback in the clinical setting

There, he worked as a statistical analyst on studies of PFAS chemical mixtures, cystic fibrosis, childhood leukemia, and the epigenetics of Type I diabetes. He was also part of the school’s COVID-19 modeling team.
