Master of Science in Data Science – Application Requirements

This program is an exceptional opportunity for students pursuing an advanced degree to expand and enrich their opportunities as data science professionals. We consider candidates from all backgrounds. However, we look for evidence that candidates will be successful in our program and ask that applicants prepare their personal statement with this in mind.

Application Requirements
Applicants must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree and an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • A personal statement.
  • A current resume or CV (including education, work experience, technical skills, and publications).
  • Two or more letters of recommendation (at least one should address your academic abilities; additional letters may highlight technical or professional strengths).
  • Evidence of foundational coursework in data science and related mathematics (e.g., CS133, CS233, calculus, statistics).
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended.
  • Application fee. (Please note that the MS in Data Science program does not provide application fee waivers.)
  • (Optional but encouraged) A portfolio (links to GitHub projects, papers, apps, or other work).

*GRE is not required. Students can submit their GRE scores, but they are not taken under consideration for admissions decisions.

Additional International Student Admission Requirements: International students are required to submit Official TOEFL or IELTS results as verification of English language proficiency. Exemptions have been established for English-speaking countries and are detailed  here. International students must also provide documentation to demonstrate they have adequate financial resources to cover one year of living expenses, tuition and fees. 

Application Deadlines
Spring 2026: Priority deadline September 15, Final deadline October 15.
Fall 2026: Priority deadline January 15, Final deadline May 1.
