The Albertsons Library is one of many resources high school students can access through the Boise State Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP). High school students taking CEP courses can utilize the library in a variety of ways, adding to the true university and CEP experience.
The following is a Q&A between the CEP and staff members of the Albertsons Library (AL) about the relationship between the departments. The AL’s combined responses are from Associate Professor/Librarian/Archivist Alex Meregaglia and Associate Professor/Librarian Memo Cordova.
Q/A Responses
CEP: “Describe the relationship between the Albertsons Library and Boise State’s Concurrent Enrollment Program.”
AL: “Concurrent Enrollment students are Boise State students: CEP students have the same access – both online and in-person – to library resources that all Boise State students have. For remote access, CEP students can access all of our databases anywhere anytime online – more than 380 databases with unique content. In person, CEP students have access to our print books plus access to incredible resources like the library’s MakerLab, Podcasting Studio, Video Production Suite, and a host of other items available for free for checkout.
“Even better, CEP students can use the library resources for any of their classes, even ones that are not concurrent enrollment.
“For specific information and instruction needs, Boise State librarians Alex Meregaglia and Memo Cordova serve the university’s Concurrent Enrollment Program through personalized library tours, course-specific research instruction, and to showcase the library’s numerous online and print resources to enhance a student’s research endeavors. We can accommodate CEP students in our two instruction rooms, or go to any campus instruction space to deliver research instruction. For CEP courses, we’re available to visit high schools within the Treasure Valley area.”
CEP: “If talking to a high school student currently taking CEP courses, how would you describe the benefits of the library and what it can offer to students?”
AL: “Utilizing the library gives you unlimited access to high-quality academic sources – the types of sources that are expected to be used in college courses. These sources, both physical and digital, can make your class assignments stronger and more thorough – beyond what you could obtain through your high school’s library.”
CEP: “For those unfamiliar, what else does the library offer that people may not know about?”
AL: “The Albertsons Library offers access to a full media studio room, a MakerLab with a range of equipment (3D printers, laser cutting, etc.), a podcasting room, a family study room, technology lending, and individual and group study rooms throughout the building. If we don’t have the technology or space requirements, ask us! CEP students also have access to Boise State’s Interlibrary Loan: This free service will obtain books and articles (sent electronically) that Boise State’s library doesn’t have immediate access to.”
