What is Concurrent Enrollment?
Concurrent enrollment is called dual enrollment, dual credit, concurrent credit, or early college. Concurrent enrollment allows high school students to earn both college and high school credit for college courses offered at their high school.
Credits can be transferred to most accredited U.S. colleges and universities. Concurrent enrollment instructors use Boise State curriculum, books, and grading scales to create a true university experience for students.
Course Delivery Options
Boise State Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) students can take college courses at their high school, online through the Idaho Digital Learning Alliance (IDLA), or directly through Boise State.
At the High School
Most Boise State CEP students take college courses at their high school. These are the same courses available directly through Boise State and are taught by qualified high school teachers who are approved by the CEP. Students earn both high school and college credit for these courses. Courses taken at the high school are offered at the state-wide $75 per credit rate.
Online through IDLA
Many Boise State CEP students take courses online through the IDLA. Students earn both high school and college credit for IDLA courses. Courses taken through IDLA are offered at the state-wide $75 per credit rate.
On-Campus & Online through Boise State
Some Boise State CEP students take college courses on the Boise State campus or online directly through Boise State. These are the same courses that are available to undergraduate students. Students earn college credit for these courses and can work with their high school to also earn high school credit. On-campus/online courses through Boise State are not offered at the $75 per credit rate. Students pay full tuition.
Advanced Opportunities
The Idaho Advanced Opportunities (AO) Program provides $4,625 in state funding to Idaho public school students and $2,500 to students attending a Cognia accredited private school. Students use AO funding to pay for dual credit courses, overload and workforce training courses, and exams.
AO can cover the full cost of concurrent enrollment courses taken at the student’s high school as they are offered at the state-wide $75 per credit rate. Students who take on-campus or online courses directly through Boise State pay full tuition but can use AO funding to help cover up to $75 per credit toward the cost of their course.

Counselor Roles in Concurrent Enrollment
Counselors play important roles in concurrent enrollment student success.
Academic Advising
Counselors provide academic advising to concurrent enrollment students. They might help students with concurrent enrollment course selection and registration. They might also help students determine course transferability between colleges/universities and request official transcripts.
Advanced Opportunities Funding
Some counselors are the designated Advanced Opportunities (AO) coordinator for their high school. They might help students with creating new AO accounts and submitting funding requests. They might also be involved with approving and submitting student funding requests to the State Board of Education.
IDLA Site Coordination
Some counselors are the designated Idaho Digital Learning Alliance (IDLA) Site Coordinator for their high school. They might determine student eligibility and help students with IDLA course selection and registration. They might also communicate with IDLA students, parents, and instructors about student progress in courses.
Academic Advising
The Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) offers general academic advising for all high school students registered for a CEP course and more formalized advising for students participating in the 15 to Start and 30 to Start pathways.
Formalized advising pathways are only available at select partner schools.
Advising Pathways
General academic advising is available to all Boise State Concurrent Enrollment students even if they are not participating in one of our advising pathways. Students can schedule an advising appointment by emailing CEAdvising@boisestate.edu.
