Relationship Building With Difficult Students

We all know the importance of building relationships but sometimes work with students that are just plain “prickly”. Trying to make a real connection with difficult students and engage them in learning can drain our energy. We often wonder “Can I do this?” and if so, “Where do I even start?”

Through stories, some science, examples, and reflection you will investigate the importance of relationships and why they are the cornerstone for everything we do with students. You will explore evidence-based practices for building relationships with challenging students. (Note: these practices work with the less challenging students, too!) Finally, you will be given some specific strategies to experiment with, and leave with an action plan that you can take back to your building and put into practice right away.
