The Learning Experience Mid-semester Assessment Process is based on our traditional MAP and is designed to help you better understand students’ learning experience in your course. Their feedback on your instructional choices and pedagogical decisions will help you improve the course by building on effective teaching methods and materials, and by addressing challenges to students’ learning.
After conducting a Learning Experience MAP in your class, you will be able to:
- Reflect on student feedback about your teaching and course design objectively
- Outline intentional changes to your teaching and course design on the basis of the feedback and consultation process
What does a Learning Experience MAP look like?
Midway through the semester, a CTL consultant will conduct an anonymous student feedback survey and a guided discussion in your class. An asynchronous option is also available. Following the MAP survey, the consultant will meet with the instructor privately to review the results and together identify areas for improvement.
What questions are asked during a Learning Experience MAP?
During the MAP survey, students will be asked three questions, to which they respond with open-ended answers:
- What about this course and its instruction fosters your learning?
- What specific changes could be made in the course that would improve your learning?
- What efforts could you make as a student to improve your learning in this course?
