Education Development Specialist, Adjunct Faculty for the Department of Writing Studies
Makayla Kocher recently joined Boise State University’s Center for Teaching and Learning as an Educational Development Specialist. Her scholarly work bridges rhetoric, student-centered and inclusive curriculum design, and public humanities, focusing on how attention, space, and narrative enhance student engagement across disciplines.
Before joining Boise State, Makayla served as Assistant Director of the First-Year Writing Program at the University of Wyoming. In that role, she trained and mentored graduate teaching assistants, edited the online Inside English 1010 journal, and coordinated co-curricular student engagement efforts. She has taught composition and rhetoric courses and collaborated on grant writing, editorial reviews, and assessment reports for writing-intensive curriculum development.
Makayla earned her MA in English with a focus on Rhetoric and Composition and Public Humanities and BA in Writing Studies, with minors in Anthropology, Honors, and Museum Studies from the University of Wyoming. Outside of work, Makayla can be found spending time with her dog Karli, hiking, baking, reading, and exploring Idaho.
