2026 Great Ideas for Teaching and Learning Summit: Reflective Teaching, Responsive Learning
The Great Ideas for Teaching and Learning Summit is an annual opportunity for educators across campus to gather in community to focus on a timely topic in teaching and learning. The theme for the 2026 Great Ideas for Teaching and Learning Summit is “Reflective Teaching, Responsive Learning” and will take place on March 27th, 2026. Our keynote speaker and workshop facilitator will be Liz Norell, author of the book The Present Professor.
Reflective teaching involves “active, persistent, and careful consideration” of our teaching practices through systematic inquiry, gathering evidence, and critically analyzing what works and what doesn’t in our classrooms (Dewey, 1933; Brookfield, 2017). Responsive learning happens when we use these reflective insights to adapt our teaching methods, course design, and learning environments to better serve student needs and improve learning outcomes (Corno, 2008). Together, these practices include the many thoughtful ways you observe and evaluate your own teaching to adjust it and enhance student learning.
This year’s Great Ideas for Teaching and Learning Summit will provide multiple opportunities for Boise State faculty to explore and share practices for reflective teaching, featuring a keynote address and workshop by Liz Norell and lightning talks and posters from Boise State faculty and students.
Registration for the Great Ideas for Teaching and Learning Summit is now open. Participants can attend in person or remotely, and join us for all sessions or just one or two. You can also see the full list of sessions, and register for the event, on the CTL’s Campus Groups page. All participants (regardless of modality) will receive a copy of Liz Norell’s book The Present Professor.
The Great Ideas for Teaching and Learning Summit is a collaboration between the Center for Teaching Learning, University Foundations, and the eCampus Center.
