We know that life can get in the way of the student you want to be. If you’re going through a difficult situation that is impacting your classes or wellbeing, you might need to withdraw for the semester. Refer to the steps below for guidance on how to take time away from Boise State and return when you’re ready.

Are you a graduate student? Withdrawal processes can differ from undergraduate programs. Contact your graduate program coordinator for guidance on withdrawing from classes and to better understand your academic options going forward.

How to Take Time Away from Boise State

  1. Schedule an advising appointment with your academic advisor or student success advisor for guidance on withdrawing from your classes for the semester and to better understand your academic options going forward.
  2. Review the following “Other Important Steps” section for additional steps that may apply to you.
  3. Check the academic calendar for important dates related to withdrawal and review withdrawal information. Depending on how far into a semester or academic session you are, you will need to withdraw from your classes through your Student Center OR submit an Academic Appeal to completely withdraw from your courses for the semester. Contact the Registrar’s Office with any questions.
  4. If you need to withdraw due to reasons beyond your control, you can submit a University Fee Appeal to request that tuition and fees be waived for the semester from which you’re withdrawing. Contact Student Financial Services with any questions.
  5. View your classes in the Student Center section of your myBoiseState Account to be sure you are not waitlisted or enrolled in upcoming classes that you can’t complete.

How to Return to Boise State

  1. Visit the Returning Boise State Student page to learn how to check your current student status. It will help you determine whether you’re considered an “active” student and can register for classes, or if you need to reapply for admission and/or complete the reinstatement process following an academic dismissal.
  2. If you attended a different college during your time away from Boise State, be sure to have your official transcripts sent to the Admissions Office. If you are no longer an active student, you will need to reapply for admission and must have earned a 2.25 GPA or higher in all courses completed after attending Boise State.
  3. Check the to-do’s and holds on your account. Follow the directions listed in your account to lift each hold on your account so you can register for classes.
  4. Schedule an advising appointment with your academic advisor or student success coach.
  5. Find out when you can register for classes. Then, register for classes on or after your enrollment appointment date. You will also receive an email to your student account stating when your enrollment appointment date and time will occur.
