Forensic Geoscience Hub (ForGe)

Advancing Justice Through Geoscience Across Idaho

Forensic Geophysics

Student in field

Missing persons or victims of crimes are sometimes buried in unmarked graves, where time and environmental changes gradually erase surface clues, making them increasingly difficult to detect.

Forensic geophysics applies non-invasive methods to identify changes beneath the ground, offering new tools for locating clandestine burials and associated evidence.

What We Do

ForGe Logo

ForGe is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation. We work with Idaho law enforcement agencies to conduct forensic geoscientific surveys. We also develop standardized best practices for forensic geophysical surveys to serve the unique environmental and legal contexts of Idaho.

  • Portrait of Andrew Gase

    Andrew Gase, PhD

    Assistant Professor

Andrew is a geophysicist with over a decade of experience with geophysical surveying and data processing. These include ground-penetrating radar and magnetometry, which are useful for detecting ground disturbances for forensic searches. Andrew teaches several courses at Boise State, including Applied and Environmental Geophysics.
