    Idaho State Board of Education

    A first-generation Latina and TRIO Student Support Services alumna, Bibiana’s commitment to education is rooted in her Southeast Idaho upbringing and the strong emphasis on learning within her immigrant parents’ home. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Political Science, supplemented by study abroad, and a Master of Science in Human Resource Development from Idaho State University, she is dedicated to expanding educational access. As a TRIO success story, she represented the program at the 2014 Policy Seminar in Washington D.C. With over a decade of experience in higher education, specializing in student enrollment, retention, and outreach at institutions like Idaho State University and the College of Western Idaho, she now serves with the Idaho State Board of Education. In her current role, she facilitates outreach, engagement, and support for programs, policies, and partnerships aimed at increasing postsecondary enrollment for Idaho’s K-12 students and their families. She currently resides in Meridian with her two cats, Totopo and Albondiga, and when not at work, she enjoys reading and traveling.

    Melanie Figueroa Zavala is graduating with a double Bachelors of Arts in Global Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Environmental Studies, Critical Theory, and the Spanish and Arabic languages. As a first-generation Mexican-American and student leader, Melanie has focused on cultivating a strong sense of community and belonging for students from all backgrounds. Her experiences include serving in student government as Vice President of Inclusive Excellence; Volunteering for the Department of State as an English classroom lead while a Gilman Scholar in Chile, and studying the Arabic language in Jordan as a Critical Language Scholar. She believes in the power of centering joy in community and loves connecting with people from different backgrounds and experiences. Post-graduation, Melanie plans to pursue a Master’s degree in policy analysis to use data-driven approaches to promote equitable policy.

    Hello, my name is Roz Al Janabi, and I’m a proud graduate of Boise State University. As a first-generation student, my journey has been shaped by resilience, dedication, and the support of those around me. Throughout my time here, I’ve been passionate about pursuing a career in healthcare, with aspirations to become a physician. I’ve gained invaluable experience through my academic work, research, leadership roles, and as a peer mentor in the TRIO program and Honors College. My goal is to continue working in healthcare, apply to medical school, and eventually contribute to patient care and health advocacy. I’m excited for the future and grateful for the experiences that have shaped my path so far.

    Mj has been doing his student teaching at Dallas Harris Elementary in a 3rd and 5th-grade classroom as part of his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Boise State University. With a deep enthusiasm for teaching and learning, MJ tries to bring energy, creativity, and a strong commitment to supporting each student’s growth.

    During his time at Boise, MJ has focused on literacy development, classroom management, and inclusive teaching strategies. He is especially passionate about making learning engaging through interactive lessons and meaningful connections with students. MJ believes that teaching is not just about academics, it’s about building confidence, curiosity, and a sense of community in the classroom.

    My name is Emma Wylde, and I am a graduate from Boise State University. My studies have been in Psychology and Spanish. I am a first-generation student who started a business in 1979 and, due to health complications, decided to come back to school after a forty-year hiatus.
